i've been compiling this mix for a while, but dragging my feet about putting up. it is badminton season, afterall, and it seems like there is free music aplenty, which leaves little time with the computer on the weekends...or weeknights. i'm taken with all of these songs, but hands in pockets and beaks to the moon were both recommended, instead of found, and they are certainly the highlights. enjoy.

it's been a while. i've been cavorting about the northwest, trying to decide if you can be in love with two cities at the same time, fighting a cold, and undergoing oral surgery...i'm a little late to the wisdom teeth extraction game. but now i'm healing all over the place, my energy is returning, and i have a bevy of pain meds. in the midst of the madness of these past two weeks, patrick sent me a new mix. it was such a nice surprise. opening my inbox to a present. enjoy.

this mix has been a long time coming and was carefully crafted. i hadn't heard nearly any of the songs he included, but i will say sampling them as i put this together pulled me right from the funk i was in. it's magical, and i don't know why that still surprises me.

i'm real excited about v35, and as always it's a group effort, whether all the contributors know it or not. the beginning flute jam out is courtesy of stuart, tess's summer 08 mix brought me a whole bunch of sassy peggy lee and heart it races, perhaps the best cover of the summer. it took a lot to keep me from filling this mix with abba, but my love for aguas de marco was enough to hold me back.
enjoy.

it's been a while since patrick has sent me a mix. it's so exciting to see one pop into my inbox. i will let his words explain his muse, but i will say i was delighted to find some favorites of mine and to have a mix to sweat to...100 degrees every day.

here is a mix for effortless sweating... not from dancing, just from sitting there with the windows open. Feels like it's dusk all day up here, when the city just cooks us most. Easy to sit still to these jams.

enjoy.

so i've been working on a compilation of songs with "summer" in their title. i add and subtract here and there and i'm still not sure this is ready for release. but, i'm learning to let go. i would also like a mix of songs that make me think of summer, for one reason or another, red rubber ball always does. there will also be a compilation of songs that make me think of bike trips. and p just made one that i will post next week that is best listened to while sitting and sweating. sounds like a summer mix to me. enjoy.

i realize that all of my promises to return to some sort of schedule of mixes have been empty thus far...which isn't like me. i dedicated some thought to this issue and i realized that, for me, the summertime is about nostalgia. it's about bike trips and wishing i was on one. so i listen to the music that takes me back to those summers. no doubt next summer i will be choosing tracks that bring me back to this summer. it's a theory at least...and one that explains away my lull in gathering new tunes.

jessica informed me that bumbershoot and i share the same party dates in the northwest, so i procured a ticket and have been beside myself since. jessica, brian, and bumbershoot?! i have no doubt that is how neko and beck slipped on here. i hope there is a little something in this one for everyone. enjoy.

lately, i've been into the pixie like voice of the english female and the gruff sounds of men. this is a slow one, but maybe i move slower in the summertime. enjoy.

i've been on a couple wild mix chases as of late, and the inability to commit to any of the themes i had dreamed up (most notably the summer theme and the i don't know theme), left me totally paralyzed with regards to the peterodcast. maybe it's not my fault, maybe it's hard to be inspired by summer releases, or just the current music scene. i want more than catchy one hit indie wonders that seem to follow a prescribed equation for popular. i could give many more excuses about the heat and swimming and stomach flus, but instead i will introduce this week's mix, which i hope will be the return to some sort of consistency.

this week there is some new and some old. music go music is obviously a nod to abba, but i don't care and i love it. it's an instant mood changer. and don't get me started on laura barrett. she had me with the mbira and then sealed the deal with robot ponies. the do is a very typical indie sound, sugary sweet in fact, but damn catchy and i couldn't resist. i hope you all are enjoying your summers.

I made it from stuff I've been listening to lately, and put it into a mix for the first part of a 17 mile run I did yesterday. It worked; i didn't even notice the first 10 miles. There are a couple of places where it gets a little instrumental and long, but it's spring, and the days are long too, so just enjoy it.

i have to say, the presentation of this podcast was the best so far. i rode to his house to gather it at lunch, it was sunny and warm, but not hot. i arrived to a table dressed for dining al fresco, we drank sun tea, ate homemade veggie soup, and havarti dill, arugula, and radish leaf sandwiches. to my surprise, there was also dessert, berries and cream atop a shortbread. throughout our lunch, we sampled the mix and jason translated some of his favorite lines of the entirely french podcast. many of them are not fit to be included in this intro, but i did like this one.

i don't want to work, i don't want to eat lunch, i just want to forget, and so i smoke.

i'm so glad to be able to share the first frenchcast, courtesy of superstar.

this is by no means a complete list, but if you asked me today who i planned to see this week, all of these bands would be on it...plus a couple more already shared, i.e. lightspeed champion, jens lekman, and the raveonettes. i'm a little disappointed that she and him are so heavy on the zooey, i need more m.ward. and i still don't believe all of the hype behind vampire weekend, they are as j would say con artists, vocals just like everyone else, a lot of paul simon and a little of the kaiser chiefs in this song, and that's the end of that. apparently to musicians they do interesting things with timing, and to me, they're pretty catchy. i also really love emmy the great. my favorite of her songs is atoms, but it's a bit of a downer. i like her cover selection and style. hope to see many of you throughout the week. enjoy.

cheesy kinks from greg via libby_v18

<itunes:author>various artists</itunes:author>

greg is a crazily brilliant man...with his own podcast, called aggregating. clever! he posted a full kinks mix not too long ago and i fell in love with it. there was one day in particular when it was the only thing pushing me to ride against the 25mph winds.

from greg:

I've always loved the straightforward plaintively emotional Kinks songs I've heard, but thought there weren't enough of them, at least in one place. So this is my attempt to unite some of the Kinks non-tongue-in-cheek material.

here they are in one place. enjoy.

emily and diego are definitely influences on this week. it nearly turned into an 80s dance mix, in which case i would have to cite all of argentina as a reference, but instead i chose a bit more of a relaxed approach. for weeks i haven't been able to stop listening to crecer besando ranas. diego has been doing a fantastic job of recording the moment, and i expect that will continue in austin. i'm a little late this week...still adjusting to the throws of normal life, my apologies. enjoy.

each week i think it can't get better, and then it does. p has once again wowed me, complete with squeeze dance remix and sons and daughters, which i have not been able to get enough of. it's fitting that this week is the marathon mix, as it will run for two weeks, since i will be on holiday next. enjoy.
